Spikes 16s team had a much stronger showing at the Rumble in the Rockies 3 day tournament finishing 9th of 21 teams

Rumble Report 2023

This past 3 day “Rumble in the Rockies” held at the Gaylord Colorado Events Center found the Spikes 16’s with a new competitive spirit. Day 1 saw the team finish 2nd in their pool with the only loss a 3 set nail biter. The team had just come off of a strategic skill enhancement program that focused on the key elements to winning points and sets. Day 2 we played higher skill level teams and competed strongly with all losses going 3 sets and losing only by 2 points in the deciding sets. I was proud of the team as we had to adjust lineups due to player illness and availability. Day 3 the Championship day found us in the first match in the morning against the same team that we had lost to day 1. Our only remaining setter had a medical emergency just prior to the start of the 3rd set and we had our Middle Blocker Hitter replace her. I couldn’t have been more proud of how she stepped up and the rest of the team supported her in a great decider set victory! The team finished a credible 9th place out of 21 total teams and has a new found belief that it can compete with strong teams and win. The team will now enter it’s final preparation phase to build on this performance and get ready for AAU Nationals in June.

ALPINE SUMMIT, 3rd CTS tournament for the 16s Attitude Blase

This weekend's tournament found our 16's team starting slow struggling to perform the simplest of skills. We woke up in the 2nd and 3rd matches to win both against 18's teams and securing 2nd place in the pool. Championship day found us playing well against strong opponents with solid offense and defense systems. Proud of how we competed and how we were able to play in our new system with players in new positions. As our Libero said to me " We are playing better but we are playing stronger teams". I'm confident that the future holds a championship plaque for us. We look forward to the Oklahoma tournament at the end of the month.

3 Day Mile High Madness and 2nd CTS TOURNAMENT 2022/23 SEASON

This MLK holiday weekend the Spikes Attitude 16's competed in another CTS tournament. Day one saw the team compete strongly against older age group teams. Our serving and aggressive defense and transition play found us finishing 2nd in pool and putting us up against much stronger 18's teams for the following day's pool bracket.

This proved to be too much for our team as the skill level of our opponents was superior to our own and our error rate was just not acceptable. We learned a lot however about what changes need to occur with both our individual skill and team tactics when faced with a strong opponent.

Championship day found us in a hard fought 3 set loss with a very skilled 17's team. As a team, we now know what is needed and will move into a prolonged training phase that will prepare us for the next major competition in Oklahoma. Both the coaching staff and the playing group are confident that we can make the changes necessary to become a smarter, stronger, and more confident  team moving forward.

We would like to thank all the family and friends who continue to support us at practice and tournaments on this journey to the AAU Nationals in June.

AVALANCHE HAVOC 1ST CTS TOURNAMENT 2022/23 SEASON

The team went into this tournament short handed with multiple players gone with injury and illness. We lost our only remaining middle player to a knee injury in the middle of the first game. We put together a plan to compete but lost every set that day. I asked them go home with positive attitudes and come back the next day ready to fight for every point. We fought hard and won every game. I couldn't have been more proud of their effort and attitude. This team will have many victories in their future due to  their work ethic and support of each other.
